why construction soak pit
Disposal of effluents form septic tank :-The effluent of septic tank will have Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) of 100 to 200 mg/L and hence it can not be disposed of into water coarse
Method of septic tank effluent disposal
- Soak pit
- Absorption trenches
- Leaching cess pool
Design of soak pit with example
1. Design a septic tank for following data :number of people is 100, sewage/capita/day is 10 liter, De-sludging period is 1 year and L:B is 4:1, detention time is 36 hours, sludge accumulation rate is 30 rate is 30 liter/person /year, depth of tank 3m. What will be volume of soak well if the effluents are to be discharged in it. Assume percolating capacity as 1250 liter/cum/day
Solution: sewage follow rate A=100=12000 liter/day=12 cum/hours =0.5 cum/hours
Dt=36 hours
sludge accumulation rate ,QsL=100 x 30=3000 liter/year = 3 cum/year
Tc=1 year
Volume (V)= Q
=0.5 x 36 + 3=21 cum
V= AD= L x B x D
21= 4B x B x 3
B=1.3 meter
L= 5.2 mete
Volume of soak pit required = Q/allowable loading rate =12000/1250=9.6 cum
Note
- The rate of sludge accumulation in septic tank is generally of the order of 30 liter/person/year
- Effluents should be disposed off either for sub surface irrigation or soak pit in trickling filter before disposed of water coarse
- beside soak pit there is no well nearby
I just wanted to say this is an elegantly composed article as we have seen here. I got some knowledge from your article and also it is a significant article for us. Thanks for sharing an article like this.Retaining Walls Oregon
