Pile integrity Test Procedure
The purpose of this study was to test the test piles under Routine load. The
design load on the pile is 43.0 T as
computed based upon static analysis. The pile is to be tested for vertical
compression up to 1.5 times the design
load (65.0 ton) or failure, whichever is earlier. The test results have been analyzed
to evaluate the safe
load on test pile.
The test pile is RCC Bored-cast-in-situ
of 600 mm diameter and 11.2m length.
TEST PROCEDURE FOR VERTICAL COMPRESSION TEST
The procedure for the test was in general accordance with IS:2911 (Part- IV) -1985. The reaction for applying compression load on the test pile is taken by kentledge method to transfer the load on test pile by sand bags. The test load
was applied on the pile top by means of a hydraulic jack using plate girders with synchronized electric pumping
unit.
The load is measured with the help of a calibrated load gauge attached to pumping unit. The test was carried out by
applying a series of vertical downward
incremental loads, each increment being of about 15% of safe load on piles.
Displacements were recorded
by means of dial gauges
of
0.01 mm sensitivity, four nos. of dial gauges which
are provided on the pile top to record settlement.
3.0 INTERPRETATION OF SAFE LOAD
Vertical Compression Pile Load Test
As per IS:2911 (Part-IV)-1985, the final load (1.5 times of safe design load) on the pile subjected to compression
should not exceed the total settlement of 12mm.
4.0 TEST RESULTS AND INTERPRETATION
The load settlement curve for Routine pile load test on Pile is presented
in fig. no.1.
As per the Routine
pile load test results, the total settlement is to about 2.65 mm for a total
applied load of 65.0 ton.
5.0 RECOMMENDATIONS
As per IS-2911 Part IV, we recommend
that a design load of 43.0 Ton may be used for 600mm diameter
& 11.2m length
pile.
